There are many reasons for growing sunflowers.
If you are going to grow them, then why not grow the biggest sunflowers you have ever seen.
Growing up to 2.5m tall, on sturdy stalks as thick as your forearm, these enormous plants develop a head up to
40 cm across, resulting in an extremely good harvest of edible seed and a show in the garden that all of your neighbours will remember.

Sweet Marjoram
Origanum majorana
These little guys usually last for a year or so in the garden but because they self seed you are able to enjoy them perennially. They have a sweeter and deeper taste than Oregano which some people prefer.
There are a thousand uses for the herb in the kitchen, but taken as a tea it does relieve flatulence and aids digestion as well as providing a calming nerve tonic to the stressed mind and emotions.
Not always quick to germinate they have an 80% viability rate so almost everything you plant will come up.

Sweet Violet
Viola odorata
The flowers are collected during spring and can be added to your salad.
The slight laxative effect can be beneficial.
Probably because of the presence of Salicylic acid in the leaves and flowers, it makes a great 'calming' herb, relieving throat complaints as well.
Homoeopathically, it is great for spasmodic coughs as well as rheumatism of the wrists.

Sweet Wormwood
Artemisia annua
Much included in discussions regarding malarial, parasitic and cancer cures, this lovely, fine leafed herb is beautiful to grow and very tolerant of Australian conditions.
It's aromatic aerial parts are used as herb, in decoction or tincture form and it retains it's vitality when hung to dry at the end of summer.
The seeds are small but easy to strike and it has high viability so be careful not to plant too many. The plant grows to around 1m tall and has a nice spread but can be bullied by larger plants if not given enough room to grow.
