Cissus -
Veldt Grape
Cissus Quadrangularis
Gaining much popularity in the 'Body building' circles, this quite weird little plant with 'cactus' looking stems with grape-like leaves erupting from the joints and then, in summer it produces these great little red berries, in bunches.
Easy to grow, it will adapt well to pots, hangers and in the garden. It requires little effort and enjoys being left alone to do it's own thing.
The seeds will only be available until the plants are no longer fruiting, as we have noticed that their viability is best when they are quite fresh.
Out of stock until next
harvest in Summer '09
Cocklebur
Xanthium sibiricum
Because the very nature of this herb is 'weed like', it is just so easy to grow if left to it's own devices.
Sown in late winter it usually fruits in late summer.
It is very fortunate that the seeds 'are' the remedy, because, if left alone it could be quite invasive.
20 seeds $3.50
Comfrey
Symphytum officinale
Having a deep tap root makes Comfrey a little difficult to get established in some soils but once settled it seems to last for years.
Seeds strike readily enough in the nursery but we do not plant out until the plant is quite sturdy and has a healthy root system.
Because it contains phosphorus, potassium, calcium and allantoin it is extremely useful as a healing agent speeding up the cell renewal in damaged muscle.
A tea made from the old leaves as you clean up around them is fantastic as a compost accelerator.
1 Root division $4.50 plus $2.50 extra postage
Unfortunately we cannot
supply rootlets or divisions to Western Australia, Tasmania or
Overseas.
Cone Flower
Echinacea purpurea
Echinacea - purpurea is an important medicinal herb to have in your garden.
Not only is it a pleasure to grow, its uses are limitless.
We use the roots to stimulate the immune system and promote healing.
Its most common use is to ward off the onset of the common cold and to alleviate the effects of a sore throat.
Parts Used: Roots and leaves of a two year old plant.
50+ seeds $3.50
Coriander
Coriandrum sativum
How could you possibly have a vegetable garden without this magnificent herb?
The entire plant is pungently aromatic, the fine, fern like foliage, beautiful, abundant white flowers, only to be followed by it's mildly narcotic seeds.
The greens can be used through most of the year, the seeds are great in pickles and curries, and the root can be used in bean dishes and soups.
30 + Seeds $3.50
Cornflower
Centaurea cyanus
A very old favourite, it is not used as often as it could be.
The flowers are mildly antibiotic and as they maintain their colour as they dry they are useful all year around.
They enjoy moderately fertile, well drained soil but will tolerate poor soil. Flowers profusely in Spring summer.
Collect flowering heads late spring and summer and dry in a warm environment.
Self-seeds freely.
A wash made by infusing the petals is comforting for tired eyes and the same infusion is an excellent final rinse for the hair.
6
fresh seeds $8.50
