Ceylon Spinach
Basella alba

We were so pleased when we finally got a chance to grow this great little climber in the vegy garden. So named because of it's close similarity to spinach from a nutritional point of view, it is a summer vegetable.

We cannot grow spinach or chard through the summer months so this tasty climber fits our need with ease.

The seed is very viable and it sets it's own seed very well.

20 fresh seeds $3.50

Chervil
Anthriscus cereifolium

The leaves and stems are high in vitamin C, carotene and iron and act to eliminate toxins from the body, therefore helping the liver, digestive problems, painful joints and ultimately the skin.

It grows well in pots and is a beautiful addition to the verandah or garden.

Chard  (Rainbow)
Beta vulgaris

Very, very showy in the vegetable garden, they look great and taste wonderful.

Easy to strike from fresh seed and they grow themselves well as long as the ground is allowed to dry out between watering. High viability, so one pack of seed will usually do the season.

Only the leaves and stems are edible.

This mix has red, white and yellow included.

Chia
Salvia Hispanica

So easy to grow that even the least successful gardener can manage a good crop. Seeds sprout in about 3 days.

It thrives in impoverished soil and once established it needs very little water and care apart from a little weeding.

The plants grow to about 1 metre tall with sturdy square stems and large attractive leaves. After the sage like flowers have set in Autumn, the seed can be harvested.

As a snack substitute for those who like to 'nibble' but are trying to watch their weight, it is wonderful.

Not only does chewing seeds give a satisfactory experience to the mouth but by their very nature, the seeds take away the desire for more food. While nothing can replace a well balanced diet, these seeds help to fill the gaps between meals.

1000 seeds  $5.50

Chick Pea
Cicer arietinum

If you enjoy chick peas that have been re-hydrated just wait until you have them fresh off the plant.

These medium sized annuals with their pairs of oval leaflets and their violet pea-like flowers are just wonderful to have scattered here and there around the garden.

They do not take long from germination to their first fruit so they are also good if you are slightly impatient and need to see results in the garden.

We usually plant in winter and the first crop is ready in early spring.

10 + Seeds $3.50

Chilli  (Bell)
Capsicum frutescens

A smart and decorative perennial chilli, it takes shaping and pruning well and it so easy to keep that it is delightful in the garden as a self sufficient inhabitant.

The chilli's are medium to hot, depending on the season and rainfall.
