Herbs by Common or Folk name 'A'

Ashwagandha
Withania somnifera |  Indian Ginseng

Aswagandha is an erect, many branched shrub with very tiny green to yellow flowers. It grows well from hardwood cuttings which root quickly, or from seed.

Seed is best planted in a cold frame during winter and set out in early spring. It has a good growth spurt in Spring but does it's real growing in Summer. Berries are usually ready to begin to harvest in early summer but we have found that they continue to produce all the way through to Autumn.

Traditional uses of Ashwagandha include fevers and inflammatory conditions. We use this herb almost daily as a substitute for Ginseng which we find very difficult to grow here. We find the berries useful after having a cold or flu as they seem to speed recovery.

50 fresh seeds $4.50

Aztec Sweet Herb
Lippia dulcis

Once established this herb is quite hardy but it can take a while to get really settled.
The leaves may be as sweet as Stevia but they have a fullness of taste that makes them quite unique. An excellent sweetener for a Horehound Tea when the 'cold & flu' season hits.

Because of the inconsistency of seed size and shape, we include the whole flower head to break up with the fingers and sprinkle onto your seed raise mix.

As a poultice for grazes, cuts and bruises it is not equalled in the garden. As to it's use for high blood pressure, improving circulation and toning varicose veins, we are still unsure and will update this when we have used it for such.

5 Seed heads $3.50

Aztec Lily
Sprekelia formosissima

As there is no need to say much about this beautiful lily apart from the fact that we have found them extremely easy to grow; they grow very well in full sun.

In Queensland, they tend to flower at all times of the year (in fact, there is very rarely a month without some flowering somewhere in the garden); they do less well under trees but do survive and multiply and lastly they prefer to be in soil that drains freely.

An absolute joy to have in the garden, and are very companionable with other plants.

Flowering size bulb  $3.50
plus $2.50 extra postage

Unfortunately we cannot supply bulbs or divisions to Western Australia, Tasmania or Overseas.

Aubergine (Finger var.)
Solanum melogena

Just like the standard Aubergine but in a more manageable size. The same seductive glossy deep violet skin that is so impressive in the vegetable garden.

The fruit itself is slightly more mild and is best picked when young or just before full maturity.

Easy to strike from seed and not too demanding in the garden.

They will grow in large pots but need more constant attention.

20 + Seeds $3.50
